On occasions, people ask me “why is it called Blasted Thing Sam”? Here is the answer…

Back in the nineties, I used to do a lot of freelance IT work, including designing websites, setting up LANs, and graphical jobs. The people I targeted were mainly those who didn’t have a clue. Not because they are clueless, meek, and willing to hand over money at the drop of the hat, but because their opinions of the whole “IT thing” were all pretty negative and I though that I could convey my knowledge in a way which might just change their views.

Obviously, my generation is IT savvy, but there are a number of people in previous generations that still haven’t got to grips with it all. Back in the day, I’d often get calls from frustrated folks who were having issues with viruses, network troubleshooting, or even sometimes simple Windows commands.

I realised that the recurring theme was that, to them, the PC was a painful and frustrating experience. To, them it wasn’t a computer, it was a “blasted thing”! So, the name was born, and it stuck considerably,being used up until very recently for my freelance work.

Contrary to opinion, the phrase isn’t supposed to mirror my attitude in this here blog. Despite some of my more irate and antagonistic posts, I really am quite a chilled out and happy person, and my aim is not to marry the domain name I purchased ten years ago with a bunch of angry themed paragraphs.

Blasted Thing is merely a name, and it’s one that I’m proud of, as I used it to earn myself money and start my whole IT career when I was a teenager - and for the meantime at least, that’s what it is will remain.
