Well, the theme design is coming on a treat, so I’ll soon be able to let you know what I’ve done with Magento. However, while I’ve been surfing, I thought I’d post a couple of handy links which you may well find useful if you have got (or are thinking of having) a Magento store.

  • NuBlue Magento Hosting - This company are UK based, so if you’re looking for a fast and speedy UK based server for hosting Magento, these are the guys to hook up with. They have Magento already setup, therefore to install it, it is really easy. I definitely recommend you sign up with them because then you won’t have to go through the notorious installation rigmorol!
  • A2 Web Hosting - Probably the grand-daddy of Magento Hosting! These guys are proper good, because whatever you’ve you’re looking for (in terms of hosting Magento) they will do it. If its only a small store you want, or a multitude of stores on your own dedicated server, they will set it up for you and it’s all ready to go. I’ve used them and they are really great - and really well priced too, I should have a look at them if I were you.
  • Simple Helix Magento Hosting - I deal with these guys often, and I’ve mentioned them before, but they are fantastic for hosting Magento sites. Once again it is pre-installed, which means once you sign up to any one of their pakcages, its simply a cas eof clicking a button, and it does if for you. All you then have to worry about is actually adding the products!!!
  • 123-Reg for purchasing a domain name - You have an idea in your head, however, you must ensure youve got www.your-wonderful-web-name.com first! 123-Reg are exceptionally priced. They are UK based, but to buy a .co.uk / .com /.net /.other domain - it is such good value. It’s easy to buy off them so why not buy your web name with them!!
  • Magento Themes - If you want a ready made theme without having to resort to Rent-A-Coder or Scriptlance, then E-Commerce Themes is the place to go, as it is the first and only Magento theme store. Design a theme, as I’ve said in my previous blogs, in bloody tricky business - as it has a completely different architecture to OS-Commerce. I myself, am going to perservere, but you haven’t got the time to, then use these guys!

Next I will be finding some superb Magento store examples so you can see what you can really do with Magento!

The grand-daddy of Magento hosting, eh? I tend to agree!

    Hi Sam

Really like the blog, some useful Magento stuff on here.

Signed up with simplehelix on the back of this and other recommendations, particularly because of the simple magento install option.

    I’ve since discovered this thread:

    http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=662905

which concerns me quite a bit. I’d be interested in your thoughts, as I’m now thinking it may be better to switch hosting.

Hi Dan, yep, I agree that Simple Helix is very handy in terms of installing Magento straight away.

I’ve just read that page you gave me and it all got a bit confusing, especially as some of the initial links have 404 errors now. But from what I can gather, it looks like Simple Helix have been posting incorrect results of their speeds?

Interesting thred, and maybe a few black hat tactics going on there, but all I can really go on are the speeds I’ve seen from personal use.

Our Magento site(s) should be ready within a week, I’ll come back and post the links when it is done…

    Thanks for your comment!

Ok Sam, thanks for the quick response. You’re right, all you can really go on is if it works for you - and from your feedback on Simple Helix it seems to be working!

Look forward to seeing your completed site.
