Despite my tech-savvy routes, I’m probably in the minority in my generation, as I still believe that the best and most influential form of any media is not the web, nor TV’s, nor PS3’s… but it is that of the radio. I listen to the (excuse the old-ism) wireless more than I watch television, and I find it more educational and entertaining than anything that the BBC or any commercial channel reels out.
I started listening to this medium properly since I was about 14, and my radio station of choice has always been Talk Radio UK, or TalkSPORT as it is now. It has a good mix of news, sport, topical banter, and also some strands programming that I find really useful - including web stuff, legal advice, and consumer issues etc
One of its presenters though does deserve a big mention, and that person is James Whale. This man is a legend. He is on air Sundays-Thursdays 10pm-1am. I always listen to the guy as I go to sleep. Not only do I learn a hell of a lot, the brashness, directness, and extended vocabulary of this man has probably subliminally moulded me into the person I am today. As well as being funny, he is outspoken, and just speaks “common sense”.
I know this post is a bit out-of-character for me, because it actually conveys praise for an individual - however I just feel that this guy, unlike the much publicised (and unfunny) idiot that is Chris Moyles, in the real star of British radio. So if you ever get the chance, turn in to 1053/1089AM or via Sky, Virgin, Freeview, or online at talksport.net.
I thank you.
